BRIEF TITLE:
BA (Hons.)
GRAPHIC DESIGN YEARBOOK
|
||
The Brief
|
Background
|
|
Produce initial design
proposals for the 2012 Graduate Year book that communicates the diverse,
creative and professional quality of the work produced on the BA (Hons.)
Graphic Design Programme
Your proposals should
consider the print and digital delivery of the publication and further
opportunities for the branding and delivery of course related information
|
The yearbook is an annual
publication designed to showcase the graduating 3rd year. The book
is distributed to Industry Contacts, potential applicants and visitors to the
end of year show. We also use the yearbook as a marketing tool to raise the
profile of the course with feeder colleges and the creative industries.
In the light of this the
Yearbook is a high concept, highly visual and professional publication that
needs to communicate the practical and conceptual standards of the Graphic
Design programme.

|
Considerations
|
||
The following questions
should inform your design direction:
·
What do you want to
say about the course, your time on it and the people you have met?
·
What do the rest of
the year group, staff etc. want to say?
·
What makes this
course/year unique and how do you communicate this through the selection,
organisation and communication of content?
·
What is the
underlying visual concept and why is it appropriate, innovative and current?
·
The message is what?
·
Who will want to
know and how will they find out?
|
||
Mandatory Requirements
|
||
The
Course, Institution’s Name and year of graduation must be clearly presented
on the cover and spine of the publication
Each
3rd year is allocated an equal amount of space containing samples
of work, a personal statement and photograph.
The
yearbook should be produced to a standard square format of 210mm x 210mm
Additional
mandatory content will be discussed with the successful design team
|
||
Practical
Considerations
|
Deliverables
|
|
You have been given a
standard square format and the budget is approximately £ 2 500 (tbc)
What production
processes, stock decisions and colour options will best support the
communication of your concept.
What additional formats
could you use (both print & digital). What other deliverables can you
propose?
|
Initial
proposal boards (3 x A2) outlining the concept and design direction for the
proposed publication. This should include sample layouts for a range of
content, Cover design and proposed branding. Proposed production decisions,
stock decisions and print processes (where possible).
