Posters for the event

The posters are early in delvelopment, they need info adding and also consider the composition. I did consider using the circle mock up I made earlier but the angles and folds were really confusing and it was hard to refer to the typocircle. DC Blog - Advertising within Nottingham costs and whats on offer.

Compostiton for Postcards

To be printed on a high shiny stock. Mock up with a clear bag with a label on the top similar to the cover with logos and images of the contents on. Consider the composition of the A2/SW/HK card***

Madethought Publication

All publications will need to be mocked up with the covers/ posters. The PDF's will need to be printed out B&W, and one full colour for the crit so people can see what the publication will look like.

Magpie Studio - Publication

Publication for Magpie Studio. The colours I have used were at first meant to reflect the colours mainly used within the designers but then it was hard to create a balance within the covers. The covers now have been influenced from the DC Blog post 90's design. I think that the odd lines and dots and abstract shapes create a visually appealing identity but within the publications it showcases the difference between the designers.

A2/SW/HK

Publication. Play with the composition to see if I can get the type to fit more without using type from other titles.

Studio 8 -Front cover & Publication

Question for crit. Images all on their sides or centered like studio 8's cover. Could do with making a PDF of the cover on two to communicate the functionality for the crit.

Anthony Burrill Cover - Publication

Cover for Anthony Burrill. The type is strong maybe to over powering but I like this as the grabs attention for the audience to read more. Also the cover will be folded and have the Nottingham contemporary Logo anf typocircle title on the front to add clarity. As a range it encourages identity but is not over powering the designers work themselves as strong as the visuals are the composition is also a distraction.

Type and textures

Exploring the use of type and textures to give a handmade feel to the typography I have drawn. Some of the colours need to be reconsidered and the compostion of the A2/ typography needs to be explored further

Front Cover Images/ Pullout Poster

After spending a lot of time here and there drawing different letter forms and looking for a brief that allows me to step away from using all vector based design work to answer the brief I have started to experiment with typography using textures I created just after Christmas.
The first few experiments from a while back influenced from rarekind London DC Blog. I think this style of typography can create an identity and the use of different letterforms and typefaces uses both tradiotnal and digital aspects of design which all 5 designers exhibit in their work.

Publication development CNTD

The idea that the images stop at a certain point 85mm from the bottom refers to the layout of the front cover where the fold occurs so that both products relate to each other. Layout development CNTD

Publication layout CTND

Publication layout development influenced from Leeds College of art exhibitions guide. This is essential for the publication to work in a ehbition and not in a major shop sellers.

Format CNTD

As the images for the posters on the other side of the covers need to be changed I have tried to experiment with the different use of the folds for the title of the publications. Below are some different compositions I have tried to see what works best. As well as the cover format I have started to input the images I have collected changing them to CMYK 300DPI and started to experiment with the composition of the publications themselves. Layout for the cover and inside of the publications. Inside of the publication is influenced by the publications I have put on my Brief 2 DC Typocircle posts.

Cover Fomat Continued

Instead of the previous attempt of using the YCN Format & design I have tried to see what the cover would be like using the designers own images on a large scale. I think the design is inconsistent using different images and different designers style approach. The covers lack the identity to bring the 5 designers together as a brand for the typocircle.

Cover for Publications

As the images for the cover of the publications are to be taken off the internet for the agencies the quality will be poor, so a quick way around this was to crop work found in the publication using two colours simialr to the YCN Everyones a winner - DC blog. As part as my statement I intend to explore experimentle formats. The cover I would like to produce would be folded similar to the YCN leaflet but when its fully opened it works a as poster aswell as a cover for the publications. Below is a quick mock up of similar use of YCN leaflet to understand the format.

Brief changed to gain a greater range

The typocircle brief was set by D&AD but the deliverables were 3 covers and 3 double page spreads for each design agency who have gave talks for Typocircle. The breif seemed to obvious in terms of deliverables so I have changed them to gain a larger range of work and to suit my Statement of Intent.

The breif now is for the Typocircle. It will be an exhibition of five previous speakers to take place at the Nottingham Contemporary.

The five speakers are;
Magpie Studio
Studio 8
A2/SW/HK
Madethought
Anthony Burrill

The range that I will produce is:
5 Publications of the designers work exhibited within Nottingham Contempory
Advertisements for the event, screen & digital. Banners
App for guidance whilst walking around the exhibition
Floor Maps
Exhibition guide
additional items:
Postcards

Texture for type DC Publication

Experimenting with rough edges of the letter forms as before the text looked really vector based and I am considering replaceing it with a more rough edge using a texture to break up the bold vector look of the Publication.

All sections of the yearbook

Earlier Sam showed me the images for the layout of the publication as some work had been added to our dropbox and been changed by Sam over the weekend. So this afternoon I edited the images again so that the image layout had more excitement and a different perspective to it. This is what I ended up with, some pages are stronger now as they have been pushed to create excitement and something that brings character to the layout but some have been pushed to far so tomorrow myself and Sam are going to select from both PDFs what work and what doesn't and look for any weaknesses to sort out for WEdnesday afternoon. We also need to add names and the pages. Will is also working on the cover which is 64 diamonds put together to represent each student and Sai is working on the logo of the book.

Beastie Boys

Experimentung with music waves and typography. For each word of the Beastie Boys lyric I have used garage band to work out how loud the word is projected over the length of time the word is projected from this I intend to experiment with different typography treatments to make to flat 2d type become energetic and refer to the song.

The above experiment using beastie boys lyrics didn't work due to how fast the song was.

Type treatments:

width - length over word
Height of the word - the level of output

Dull songs
Short words sharp
Longer words on the wave length diffused/ blurred/ overlapped

Drop shadow - how loud the projection of the lyric is.

I think by creating a basic font or use an existing font and add textures and break up the vector lines it will give it a more distorted varied look rather than being clean and computerised.

Images from inside More chance

Decisions to make within the colours for the front cover & also how to print the inside of the publication. I quite like the non-flourestent colours as the front colours but for where ideally I would want the publication to be distributed it may add some colour (London Public Transport)

*Ask for advice off visiting Professionals?

Also what stock I decide to use it will have to work as a series with the adverts & stickers ect.
